how to write a video script template from video script example to production

September 22, 2016 by Blake Leave a Comment

Things to Consider While Writing Your Video Script

Writing is quite hard whether you are writing a blog post or a video script. You have to follow certain rules to get started with script writing. There are times when you feel lost because your writing skills are frustrating for you. You are either getting too boring or you are too casual and not able to transfer your message to your audience.

Script writing has many essentials tasks that you have to perform because if you are not able to convey your business message through words, you are not going to engage your audience through your videos.

Videos are an effective way to use your emotions to convey what you are want to say and how you will be solving problems for your clients. You can just say: “I am XYZ company and I do SEO services, I have ABC clients and 10 people in my company or you can say I help businesses like ABC to increase clients by increasing their ranking on search engine and social media. You can sound too boring or too cool by simple tweaks and changes in your script.

Here we will be discussing about the things to consider while writing video scripts to better transform your visitors into customers,

1 -Keep your targeted audience in mind

video-script-audienceThe best way to simply connect with your audience is through putting yourself in their shoes. By this you get to know about their problems and you will get to know how you will need to be contacted or reached or tell about a business which can solve their problem.

Talk about their problems and state their mental state for example “Are you feeling frustrated with too many spam emails and it’s consuming your precious time?”.

By talking about their problems you are attracting them and making them aware that you know how it feels and what problem they are facing. If you know their problem, you can help with the solution. By keeping your targeted audience in mind, you can write your script to attract them and increase the message penetration.

2 – Entertain

video-script-2On the internet no one likes boring stuff; everyone wants to be entertained. Many businesses are creating entertaining and emotional videos for branding. Your videos should not be about stats and boring slide presentation and lots of information which your viewers can’t digest.

Entertaining and informative videos get more views and attention on social media. With stories and funny characters and situations, you can add a fun element in your company videos. Adding humor for your audience can make your videos viral because anyone can connect with that video because of humor.

3 – Avoid jargons

While scripting your videos, you must avoid jargons because videos are watched by novices and these can affect your audience engagement and they might feel disconnected. Avoiding jargons makes your video appealing for everyone and since people understand it they will be more likely to share it with their friends and family.

4 – Choose proper tone, pace and style

smarketing-planChoosing proper tone while scripting is very important but one of the most overlooked factors when it comes to script writing.

If you want to tell a story with characters you must have conversational tone. If you are scripting for documentaries, you must have formal voice overs and narrative tone.

5 – Tell Story

People remember stories and you can make a long-lasting impression with stories. You can brand yourself with stories and humor. These increase your brand reach and spread your message across multiple social medias because people enjoy and remember your stories.

6 – Keep it short, concise, and simple

video-script-1The internet is a very noisy place and if you can’t convey your message in a concise and entertaining way you can’t pass on your business message to a larger audience. People live simple so make your emails, messages, and videos to the point.

By keeping your videos short, simple and concise, you are not only engaging your audience effectively, you are also reducing your bounce and abandon rate. People don’t like long videos and if you are not getting to the core message in a few seconds, they are going to close your video.

By keeping all these things in mind you are ready to create your first video with Vidcredible. It is a simple video creation tool for everyone who wants to get into video marketing.

So we hope we have covered the important points on how to write a compelling video script to engage your audience. If you have any suggestions, please comment below.

How to make a video go viral? Why do viral videos go viral? What is a viral video?

May 30, 2016 by Blake Leave a Comment

Why Some Videos Go Viral and Others Don't

Have you seen your timelines lately? Anything new, any content being shared multiple times?

For any social media network dashboard, you can see thousands of content being shared by your friends or the people you follow. Sometimes you cannot even keep track of everything that is being shared; but every now and then, there is that one video that becomes more than just content is being being super-shared. It becomes a meme and a pop culture reference for a long time, people will even make their parody of it, and you just know that this video will be remembered for as long as people can reference it.

What is it about these videos? Viral videos have a very diverse nature, it could sometimes be funny, or other times it is emotionally gripping. This is the reason why marketers are not only encouraged to adapt to new digital marketing techniques and strategies like video marketing, but also to churn out creative content that can become viral. Of course the entertainment value helps it become viral, but if you think about it, the people who share it are what drives its virality.

Viral videos are more than just its entertainment value, because not all entertaining videos become viral. Here we will talk about what a viral video is and what elements make a video viral.

What is a Viral Video?

What is a Viral Video?

The words “viral video” is being tossed around these days, but nobody knows exactly what it means and what constitutes a viral video. There are videos out there that have so many views but are not exactly considered viral, so how many views does it need to have? What about shares, for how long do people need to talk about them?

Too many questions for a seemingly simple subject. Let us discuss them further.

Number of views

In an article written by Kevin Nalty, or known as Youtuber nalts, he once said that a video is considered viral if it has a million views. But he updated that saying that a video is viral if it hi 5 million views within 3-7 days. If you think about it, his updated definition makes sense. The only reason a million hits was such a big deal before was because making videos is not as common as it is now.

But with high-tech camcorders, smartphones, and other recording devices it is now easier to record even the most personal or funny moments with friends and families and automatically share it with the world (surprisingly, these kinds of videos can become viral).

Take the Double Rainbow video which has now garnered more than 43 million views. It was a moment of pure bliss, it was personal, and he recorded it so he can share this amazing thing that he sees. Because of his viewership, it is considered a viral video. But more than that, it also gained a lot of buzz on social media.

A lot of people are talking about the video

Of course, it could not have had a lot of views if it did not generate a lot of buzz. Video shares is an important part of making a video viral, or at least it is one of the markers of a viral video. In the same article, Nalty says “Part of what makes a video “viral” is not just the views but the degree of discussion online and offline (media). Here we get into a “chicken and the egg” issue, since the video’s viral nature may prompt “coverage”, which inspires even more views”.

Let us use the same video example: the main reason Double Rainbow even got attention was because Jimmy Kimmel mentioned it in a tweet, and from there so much buzz has been made on social media.

When the parodies start coming

Another marker for a videos “virality” is if people made parodies of them by re-mixing, re-cutting, and re-creating your videos. Not only is the parody shared a million times over, the original video gets viewed ad shared even more. After the Double Rainbow got everyone’s attention, Youtuber schmoyoho took this chance to create a very catchy, autotuned song version of the video and now a lot of people are singing it!

It becomes unforgettable

It has been years ever since Double Rainbow was discovered, and we still reference it to this day. That is an important factor in the virality of our videos” people should be able to remember it for a very long time.

So now that we know what a viral video is, let us see how we can make one.

The Secrets of Viral Videos

The Secrets of Viral Videos

There is a little confusion with viral videos when it comes to marketing. Some people think that if they can create an entertaining video they can just put their logos everywhere on the video, heavily marketing their product sacrificing the story or narrative of their video. Well, in that case you are trying to make a promotional video and not a viral video. But this confusion is something that we can avoid as marketers if we keep these viral video secrets in mind.

Create an original narrative

As marketers, or anyone who is making a living out of the benefits of the Internet, storytelling has been one of our buzzwords. Indeed, a solid narrative in our videos is an important way for us to catch the people’s attention. It shows our flexibility and originality in terms of how we want to promote our brand. It does not even need to be a made-up narrative like the Evian Baby & Me ad. Take, for instance, this Red Bull freefall video ad with Felix Baumgartner, it is a real project that they worked on and sponsored; it is original and it is record-breaking. Of course, you do not have to do a stunt to make your video narrative work, just like what the Telekinetic Coffee Shop Surprise (a video made to promote the film Carrie) has shown us which is a prank ad.

You just need to be original, or if that cannot be achieved at present, be able to spin a story where you can easily see what the video will be about.

Video provokes an emotional response

With a solid narrative comes an emotional response, it is what drives people to share it in the first place. Whether it is anger, happiness, or sadness make sure that your video gets an emotional response from your viewers.

We can use Psy’s Gangnam Style as an example. The video became a viral hit, and not only that, Psy became one of the most famous and celebrated Korean artists because of his humorous and unique songs and videos ever since. People shared the video because they thought the dance was hilarious, and from there became one of the most memorable songs of 2012.

At the moment, anger is not something you might want to risk especially if you are a brand that is just starting out. But humorous and inspirational themes, as well as educational, are what you can play with; and it has shown good results in terms of virality.

Not too overly promotional

If you are a start-up company, this viral video project will probably be the first time most people will hear about you. Because of this, your video should be able to show your brand’s personality without selling it too hard. What people do not like the most these days is a marketer shoving their products to viewer’s faces. So let us try to dial it down a bit, but be careful not to sacrifice an important opportunity to show who you are. Just strike a balance, like what DollarShaveClub.com did with their video ad.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUG9qYTJMsI

Promote it like there is no tomorrow

Share, share, and share it some more. Post it on all of your social media sites, publish it on your website, just everywhere you can post it. The best part about being marketers is that we have avenues to share our content other than the usual social media networks, so make use of them.

Viral Videos Thoughts

Final thoughts

So go on ahead and create a storyboard, think about the emotion you want to invoke, make sure that the entertainment value and its promotional purpose is balanced out, and then share it with everyone else. Pretty sure you will have a viral video in no time.

How to update video content | When to repurpose ideas for website videos

May 25, 2016 by Blake Leave a Comment

Optimizing your Video for Mobile

The way the world works, everything changes constantly. From the kind of clothes that is on trend, the music, and the information that drives the constant changes in the world. That means things get outdated, yes, music and clothes still hold a special kind of relevancy once they transcend to the vintage; but the same is not true for information and marketing. Once you are out of trend, you are basically old news.

As luck would have it, updating your content to fit the time is actually fairly easy. By doing this, your content can continue to become relevant especially the content was already high-performing in terms of popularity in the first place. Plus, it saves time because you would not need to create another one from scratch.

However, you might think it is probably easier for blog articles to be updated than video. Honestly, in most cases, it is actually true. But here we will discuss about how you can approach updating your video and the ways in which you can do it. You are going to have to apply a little elbow grease,as is the case with other marketing techniques, but hopefully you will be able to get the hang of it and apply it to your own videos.

Repurposing vs. Revamping

First, let us get certain confusions out of the way. There is a difference between repurposing and revamping content. You might not think that this is a big deal, but the difference actually dictates what you are going to do to your content and how you are going to promote it again.

Repurposing videos mean that you are changing the format of the content. It could be from blog article to video to infographic and so on. The purpose behind changing the format could differ, too. Let us say you wrote an article promoting videos to social media, but you also want to create a podcast about it. You can tailor the content to fit the new format, the same is true if you want to create a video out of the same material. By doing this, you are trying to reach people who prefer different kinds of formats. The other reason would be to extend your reach to a different audience. Maybe you want amateur video marketers to check out your work for this specific topic, or you probably want to start a discussion with people who are more advanced. That is what repurposing is for, getting the attention of a different segment of people

Revamping, on the other hand, the goal is to continue using it for the same purpose you created the material in the first place. But this time, you just want to update its content so that it remains to be relevant to your viewers. Using the same example, for instance your article on promoting videos on social media became very popular. Upon studying the current trends you found out that the techniques you have listed on your work is already a little outdated, and so you decide to update the information by editing it and putting an author’s note at the start or at the end of the article. The purpose of revamping is to get the attention of the same segment of people.

Differentiating this will help you figure out what you actually want to do with your content. But now let us delve into one of those content editing techniques for your videos: revamping your content.

Why you need to update your video

Why you need to update your video

The best question is, why should you care about updating your video, or any content for that matter? It is old content anyway, buried deep within the archives, why would should you bother?

It is simple really: it still drives high traffic.

Content that stays useful regardless of the season is called evergreen content. If your content remains to be evergreen it still holds an SEO value that some of your newer content may not have. This just means that whenever a person searches for something, there is a high possibility that search engines will prioritise your older content because it ranks well. If that person is new to your page and have not checked the date you published your video, they might get information that is already outdated, and therefore not very useful for current trends. You do not want to break people’s trust, especially if it is their first time checking your work out.

By updating your content, you are extending the life of your content as well as give it a chance to rank even better on search engines. Plus, it is easier than creating a post from scratch, and it is certainly a time-saver. Of course, not all of your video content can be updated.

What makes content evergreen?

  • As the name suggests, it should be everlasting. Regardless of season or year, the content should provide useful information and will need little to no editing at all.
  • You should make sure that the content within are top quality that people notice it the first time you have published it. Remember that f your content is not valuable in the first place, people will not bother reading it so you cannot expect your updated content to get as much views.
  • Evergreen content usually take time to make because it is your best practices, some definitive guide or an expert piece on a certain topic. It is usually a very detailed content explaining these things than on other topics.

Making sure that your content remains evergreen is important not only because it guarantees SEO traffic, but also because it is one way for you to create a certain level of trust to a viewer revisiting your post or someone who is new to your content.

When to update your video content

When to update your video content

It is very easy to figure out when you need to update your video content because as marketers, you are constantly studying trends and different techniques that apply to you. If you found something new, study it and decide whether this new idea/trend/technique works really well but seems to contradict your previous post or not. If you think your post is still relevant because it is still better than this new thing you have found, then you do not need to change anything, but if it is the contrary, you better dig up your content and start updating it.

To help you, here are examples of evergreen content.

  • How-to guides for topics that have a fixed process (e.g. how to create a Google My Business page)
  • Frequently asked questions both of the company and the industry it is in
  • Historical timelines (e.g. the evolution of advertising)
  • Curated content (e.g. 9 best tools for video editing)

On the other hand, here are what is not considered evergreen content:

  • Time specific or event specific posts
  • Anything that provides data and statistics
  • Editorials or opinion content
  • News

Identifying the type of content can help you after learning about trends so that you will know if it needs to updated or if its current form is still pretty relevant. Remember that the lifespan of evergreen posts are usually one to two years, even then new things come up that might need to show up on your video. So just keep these in mind and you will be okay.

How to update video content

How to update video content

The first thing you need to understand is if something is not broken, then you do not need to fix it. It is true for evergreen posts, and it is true for any other post that can be considered long-lasting. Here are a couple of things you can do when updating your video content.

Audit your video content

Like what was mentioned previously, not all content can be updated. You need to create a short list of videos that need to be updated. To do these you can consult Youtube analytics or analytics of the video platform you are using. Check out which ones are getting top views and which ones are not. Now that you have done that, the next thing to do is to check out which ones are ranking well, and to these you can use a keyword metrics

By doing this, you will have a list of evergreen content that you can update to

Update content

Here comes the difficult part: actually updating the video content. With Youtube, you can always add annotations on the video, this way people will know on a specific timestamp on the video that there is some new development in the industry regarding an item that you are currently talking about. But what if the update is longer?

This is where multiplatform publishing comes in, and some marketers are doing this already. When you publish a video content, write a post about it. It could be a summary of the points you were talking about on the video, or a bulleted list of things. This way, you can put annotations on the video and add a longer update on a post that you have written. Plus, the goal has always been to lead the viewer to your actual website, putting an annotation that a longer update is included on a post in your website will get them to visit it.

Update call-to-action

In relation to the previous point, you can put new links for people to visit so that they will not miss out on new information. Make sure that your CTA catches attention, put it in the first fold of the description box or make sure the color of the CTA annotation is noticeable.

Make sure it is optimized

Yes, your content is already ranking on search engines, what else can you do? Well, you can always rank it for other keywords, especially now that you have updated it. Maybe you can add new video tags and maybe someone who used certain words on their search might stumble upon your video.

Create more everlasting content

Think about what other topics have not been touched on in your industry, or maybe something unique but still related to your business. Evergreen content is the best way to drive traffic from your video to your website and can certainly help conversion rates, so continue creating them.

Updating video content is a bit harder than updating written posts, but never forget that you can use them both. Videos are still the best way to get a message across since people are more visual nowadays, but it is always helpful to have a way for you to edit your content other than putting annotations on the video. It is hard, and you might need to get into the nitty gritty of things, but it is definitely worth doing in the long run.
